Circuit/System Testing

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the X2 harness connector at the S78 turn signal/multifunction switch.
  2. Ignition ON, test for 4.8-5.2 V between the signal circuit terminal 5 and ground.
    • If less than the specified range, test the signal circuit for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal replace the P16 instrument cluster.
    • If greater than the specified range, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal replace the P16 instrument cluster.
  3. Test for B+ between the signal circuit terminal 12 and ground.
    • If less than the specified value, test the signal for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal replace the P16 instrument cluster.
  4. Install a 5 A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal 12 and the low reference circuit terminal 6. Verify the scan tool Driver Information Center Switch parameter displays 0 V.
    • If not the specified value, test the low reference circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal replace the P16 instrument cluster.
  5. If all circuits tests normal, test or replace the S78 turn signal/multifunction switch.
