Transmission Output Shaft Seal Replacement (All Wheel Drive)

Preliminary Procedures

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  2. Remove the exhaust system. Refer to Exhaust System Replacement (With LY7 and LLT) or Exhaust System Replacement (With LP1) .
  3. Remove the drive shaft. Refer to Rear Propeller Shaft Replacement (RWD) or Rear Propeller Shaft Replacement (AWD) .
  4. Support the transmission with a suitable jack.
  5. Remove the transmission mount assembly. Refer to Transmission Mount Replacement .
  6. Remove the transfer case. Refer to Transfer Case Assembly Replacement .
1 Output Shaft Seal

Procedure

  • Use the J 45000  to remove the seal. Use care in order to avoid scraping or gouging the output shaft bushing.
  • Lubricate the seal with clean transmission fluid.
  • Use the J 38693  to install the seal. See Special Tools .

Tools Required

  • J 45000  Seal Remover
  • J 38693  Seal Installer. See Special Tools .
