Circuit/System Testing

NOTE:

If only DTC C0710 is set refer to Only DTC C0710 Set, if both DTC C0710 and C1100 are set, refer to Both DTC C0710 and C1100 Set.

Only DTC C0710 Set

  1. Ignition OFF and all vehicle systems OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the steering angle sensor. It may take up to 2 minutes for all vehicle systems to power down.
  2. Test for less than 20 Ω between the low reference circuit terminal 2 and ground.
    • If 20 Ω or greater 
    1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the EBCM.
    2. Test for less than 2 Ω in the low reference circuit end to end.
      • If 2 Ω or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 Ω, replace the EBCM.
    • If less than 20 Ω 
  3. Ignition ON.
  4. Test for 4.8-5.2 V between the 5 V reference circuit terminal 1 and ground.
    • If less than 4.8 V 
    1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the EBCM.
    2. Test for infinite resistance between the 5 V reference circuit and ground.
      • If less than infinite resistance, repair the short to ground on the circuit.
      • If infinite resistance
    3. Test for less than 2 Ω in the 5 V reference circuit end to end.
      • If 2 Ω or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 Ω, replace the EBCM.
    • If greater than 5.2 V 
    1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the EBCM, ignition ON.
    2. Test for less than 1 V between the 5 V reference circuit and ground.
      • If 1 V or greater, repair the short to voltage on the circuit.
      • If less than 1 V, replace the EBCM.
    • If between 4.8-5.2 V 
  5. Test for 4.8-5.2 V between the 5 V reference circuit terminal 1 and the signal circuit terminal 6.
    • If less than 4.8 V 
    1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the EBCM.
    2. Test for less than 2 Ω in the signal circuit end to end.
      • If 2 Ω or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 Ω, replace the EBCM.
    • If greater than 5.2 V 
    1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the EBCM, ignition ON.
    2. Test for less than 1 V between the signal circuit and ground.
      • If 1 V or greater, repair the short to voltage on the circuit.
      • If less than 1 V, replace the EBCM.
    • If between 4.8-5.2 V 
  6. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the EBCM.
  7. Test for infinite resistance between the signal circuit terminal 4 and ground.
    • If less than infinite resistance 

      Repair the short to ground on the circuit.

    • If infinite resistance 
  8. Connect the harness connector at the EBCM.
  9. Ignition ON.
  10. NOTE:

    When measuring voltage, the voltage values are based on a battery charge of 12.5 V and the steering wheel is in the center position.

  11. Test for 6.8-11 V between the signal circuit terminals listed below and ground.
    • Phase A terminal 3
    • Phase B terminal 4
    • Phase C terminal 5
    • If less than 6.8 V 
    1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the EBCM.
    2. Test for infinite resistance between the signal circuit and ground.
      • If less than infinite resistance, repair the short to ground on the circuit.
      • If infinite resistance
    3. Test for less than 2 Ω in the signal circuit end to end.
      • If 2 Ω or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 Ω, replace the EBCM.
    • If greater than 11 V 
    1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the EBCM, ignition ON.
    2. Test for less than 1 V between the signal circuit and ground.
      • If 1 V or greater, repair the short to voltage on the circuit.
      • If less than 1 V, replace the EBCM.
    • If between 6.8-11 V 
  12. Test or replace the steering angle sensor.

Both DTC C0710 and C1100 Set

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the brake booster vacuum sensor and the steering angle sensor, ignition ON.
  2. Test for 4.8-5.2 V between the 5 V reference circuit terminals listed below and ground.
    • Terminal 3 at the brake booster vacuum sensor
    • Terminal 1 at the steering angle sensor
    • If less than 4.8 V 
    1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the EBCM.
    2. Test for infinite resistance between the 5 V reference circuit and ground.
      • If less than infinite resistance, repair the short to ground on the circuit.
    3. Test for less than 2 Ω in the 5 V reference circuit end to end.
      • If 2 Ω or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 Ω, replace the EBCM.
    • If greater than 5.2 V 
    1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the EBCM, ignition ON.
    2. Test for less than 1 V between the 5 V reference circuit and ground.
      • If 1 V or greater, repair the short to voltage on the circuit.
      • If less than 1 V, replace the EBCM.
    • If between 4.8-5.2 V 
  3. Test or replace the brake booster sensor or steering angle sensor.
