Drive Pinion Assemble


Tools Required
* J 24433 Pinion Cone and Side Bearing Installer
* J 45005 Seal Installer
* J 45012 Pinion Flange Holder







1. Install the pinion head bearing onto the pinion shaft using the J 24433 and a hydraulic press.




2. Assemble the pinion shaft (4), the housing (2), the spacer (3) and the bearing (1).




3. Press the bearing onto the pinion shaft using the J 24433 and a hydraulic press.




4. Lightly lubricate the outer diameter of the seal with axle lube.
5. Install a NEW pinion seal using the J 45005 .




6. Install the pinion flange onto the shaft.




7. Apply threadlocker GM P/N 12345382 (Canadian P/N 10953489) to clean the threads of the pinion nut.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice (Fastener Notice) .

8. Install the pinion flange nut.

Tighten the pinion flange nut to 245 N.m 181 lb ft) while holding the flange with J 45012 and breaker bar.

9. Remove J 45012 .
