Removal Procedure

- Remove the catalytic converter pipe. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement (4.3L) or Catalytic Converter Replacement (4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L, 6.2L) or Catalytic Converter Replacement (6.6L) .
- Remove the heat shield bolts.
- Remove the heat shield.
- Support the transmission.
- Remove the transmission crossmember. Refer to Transmission Support Crossmember Replacement (2WD 2500 HD/3500) or Transmission Support Crossmember Replacement (2WD 1500/2500) or Transmission Support Crossmember Replacement (4WD 1500/2500) or Transmission Support Crossmember Replacement (4WD 2500 HD/3500) .
- Lower the transmission with a suitable jack.
- Remove the oil pan bolt below the servo.
- Install the J 29714-A . See Special Tools .
- Tighten the bolt on J 29714-A in order to compress the servo cover. See Special Tools .
- Remove the servo cover ring.
- Remove the J 29714-A . See Special Tools .
- Remove the servo cover and O-ring seal. If the cover is hung up on the seal, use a pick (2) in order to pull and stretch the seal (1) out of the groove. Cut and remove the O-ring seal before removing the cover.
- Remove the 2-4 servo.
- Inspect the 4th apply piston, 2-4 servo converter, 2nd apply piston, and the servo piston inner housing for the following defects:
- Cracks
- Scoring
- Burrs and nicks
