Transmission Control Replacement

Preliminary Procedures

  1. Many automatic transmission shift control related complaints can be corrected with linkage adjustment. DO NOT replace a shifter assembly without first attempting to correct the condition with the linkage adjustment procedure.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  3. Disconnect the shift linkage from the shift control. Refer to Shift Control Linkage Replacement (All Wheel Drive)  or Shift Control Linkage Replacement (Rear Wheel Drive) .
  4. Lower the vehicle.
  5. Remove the shift control knob. Refer to Transmission Control Lever Knob Replacement .
  6. Remove the center console assembly. Refer to Front Floor Console Replacement .
  7. Disconnect the electrical connector from the shift control.
1 Shift Control Nut (Qty: 4)
CAUTION: Refer to Fastener Caution .

Tighten:  9 N.m (80 lb in)

2 Shift Control
Procedure: 
Adjustment of the shift control linkage is required after installing the shift control. Refer to Shift Control Linkage Adjustment (All Wheel Drive)  or Shift Control Linkage Adjustment (Rear Wheel Drive) .
