Trunk Ajar Indicator Inoperative

Schematic Reference: Release Systems Schematics or Instrument Cluster Schematics 
Connector End View Reference: Vehicle Access Connector End Views or Displays and Gages Connector End Views 
IMPORTANT: If this vehicle is not equipped with GM Trap Alert please verify Trap Alert is not enabled by reprogramming the rear integration module (RIM) before using this table. Refer to Control Module References .
1 Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle? Go to Step 2  Go to Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle
2 Open the rear compartment.
Is the trunk ajar indicator illuminated/message displayed?
Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections Go to Step 3

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition with the engine OFF.
  3. Open the rear compartment.
  4. With a scan tool observe the trunk ajar switch signal input in the RIM data list.
Does the scan tool indicate the trunk ajar switch signal is active?
Go to Step 9  Go to Step 4

  1. Disconnect the rear compartment lid ajar switch.
  2. Connect a fused jumper between the rear compartment lid ajar switch signal circuit and a good ground.
Is the trunk ajar indicator illuminated/message displayed?
Go to Step 5  Go to Step 7 
5 Connect a fused jumper between the rear compartment lid ajar switch signal and ground circuits.
Is the trunk ajar indicator illuminated/message displayed?
Go to Step 6  Go to Step 8 
6 Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the rear compartment lid ajar switch. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 11  Go to Step 10 
7 Repair open or high resistance in the signal circuit of the rear compartment lid ajar switch. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 11  -
8 Repair open or high resistance in the ground circuit of the rear compartment lid ajar switch. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 11  -
9 Replace the driver information center (DIC). Refer to Control Module References for replacement, setup, and programming.
Did you complete the repair?
Go to Step 11  -
10 Replace the rear compartment lid ajar switch. Refer to Rear Compartment Lid Switch Replacement .
Did you complete the repair?
Go to Step 11  -
11 Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
Did you correct the condition?
System OK Go to Step 3
