Service Fast Learn Adapts: Notes

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
IMPORTANT: Do not utilize the Tech 2 service fast learn (SFL) adapt procedure. The procedure will not run properly for all 2006 RWD 6-speed automatic transmissions. Instead, perform the following drive cycle, which is also published in the service preliminary information (PI) document 1816258. This driving procedure will produce similar SFL adaptive results. The Tech 2 SFL adapt procedure is not functioning properly and should not be used to learn shift adapts.

Service Fast Learn Adapts is a procedure for 6-speed automatic transmissions in which a series of driving maneuvers are used to allow the transmission control module (TCM) to learn individual clutch characteristics. Once the clutch data is learned, Service Fast Learn Adapts translates it into the adaptive data cells, which the TCM uses for clutch control during shifts.

When running the SFL adapts procedure with the Tech 2, the procedure may fail. The following drive procedure can be successfully used as a substitute:

The drive procedure is required when:

The drive procedure is NOT required when:

The transmission is replaced. Replacement transmission assemblies already have the adapts set by the transmission assembly plant.
