Circuit/System Testing

- Measure the CMP actuator solenoid for the following specified resistance for the given temperature.
- 3.25-3.66 ohms at 40°C (40°F)
- 4.0-4.5 ohms at 20°C (68°F)
- 4.0-4.52 ohms at 25°C (77°F)
- 5.6-6.4 ohms at 125°C (257°F)
- If the resistance is not at the specified value for the given temperature replace the affected CMP actuator solenoid.
- Disconnect the ECM. Test the affected CMP actuator solenoid control circuit for less than 2.5 ohms of resistance.
- If the resistance is more the 2.5 ohms repair the circuit as needed.
- Test the affected CMP actuator solenoid ground circuit for less than 2.5 ohms of resistance.
- If the resistance is more the 2.5 ohms repair the circuit as needed.
- Inspect for the following conditions
- Degraded oil quality, incorrect oil viscosity, and improper oil level
- Improper alignment of the CMP actuator solenoid to the oil control valve
- Low engine oil pressure
- Oil pressure leaks and restrictions in the dedicated oil passages from the oil filter to the affected CMP actuator
- A slow moving or sticking oil control valve
- A loose primary or secondary timing chain
- If no condition is found, replace the ECM.
