Piston, Connecting Rod, and Bearing Removal

Tools Required

• J 24270  Cylinder Bore Ridge Reamer
• J 42846  Crankshaft Protector Button. See Special Tools .

1. Install the J 42846  onto the front of the crankshaft in order to rotate the crankshaft. See Special Tools .
2. Rotate the crankshaft until the piston is at the bottom of the stroke (BDC).

IMPORTANT: Do not remove the excessive material from the cylinder bore. Excessive removal of material may require cylinder boring to the next oversize.
3. Remove the cylinder bore ridge as necessary.
   1. Place a cloth on top of the piston.
   2. Perform the cutting operation with a J 24270  . Refer to the manufacturer's instructions before using the J 24270  .
   3. Remove the J 24270  .
   4. Rotate the crankshaft until the piston is at top dead center (TDC).
   5. Remove the cloth and the cuttings.
   6. Repeat the procedure for each piston.

IMPORTANT: Place matching marks or numbers on the connecting rods and the connecting rod caps. The connecting rod caps must be assembled to their original connecting rods.
IMPORTANT: When connecting rod bearings are removed, NEW bearings must be installed during assembly.
4. Remove the connecting rod nuts.
5. Remove the connecting rod cap and the connecting rod lower bearing.

6. Install rubber fuel line (1) onto the connecting rod bolts to prevent contact with the crankshaft journal.

7. Remove the piston, connecting rod, and connecting rod bearing.

8. Remove the rubber fuel line (1) from the connecting rod bolts.
9. Remove the remaining piston and the connecting rod assemblies.
10. Remove the J 42846  from the front of the crankshaft. See Special Tools .
