Engine Flywheel Cleaning and Inspection

  1. Clean the flexplate in solvent.
  2. CAUTION: Refer to Safety Glasses Caution in Cautions and Notices.
  3. Dry the flexplate with compressed air.

  5. Inspect the flexplate for the following conditions:
    • Stress cracks around the flexplate-to-torque converter mounting bolt hole locations (1) and/or flexplate-to-crankshaft (2, 3)
    • IMPORTANT: Do not attempt to repair the welded areas that retain the ring gear to the flexplate plate. Install a new flexplate.
    • Cracks at welded areas that retain the ring gear onto the flexplate (4)
    • Damaged or missing ring gear teeth (5)
