Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal Installation

Tools Required
J 42849 Crankshaft Rear Seal Installer. See Special Tools .
IMPORTANT:
Crankshaft rear oil seal and engine flywheel installation requires adequate space for installation. If the engine stand does not allow suitable space to use the J 42849
, install the crankshaft rear oil seal and engine flywheel with the engine properly supported on the floor. See Special Tools .
- Make sure the crankshaft rear chamfer is free of grit, loose rust, and burrs. Correct as needed.
- Apply a very light film of oil onto the crankshaft sealing surface.
DO NOT apply oil to the sealing surface of the engine block.
- Install the seal on the J 42849 . See Special Tools .
- Position J 42849 against the crankshaft. See Special Tools . Thread the attaching screws into the tapped holes in the crankshaft.
- Tighten the screws securely with a screwdriver in order to ensure that the seal is installed squarely over the crankshaft.
- Rotate the center nut until the J 42849 bottoms. See Special Tools .
- Remove the J 42849 . See Special Tools .
