1 Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle? Go to Step 2  Go to Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle in Vehicle DTC Information

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF.
  3. Activate and release each of the driver information center (DIC) switches.
  4. With a scan tool, observe the following DIC switch parameters in the instrument panel cluster (IPC) Data List:
    • Information Down Switch
    • Information Up Switch
    • Information Reset Switch
    • Trip Reset Switch
    • English/Metric Switch
Does the scan tool display Active when each switch is pressed and Inactive when each switch is released?		 Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems Go to Step 3

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the DIC/dimmer switch.
  3. Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF.
  4. Connect a test lamp between the DIC switch feed circuit and a good ground.
Does the test lamp illuminate?		 Go to Step 4  Go to Step 5 
4 Connect a test lamp between the DIC switch feed circuit and the DIC switch ground circuit.
Does the test lamp illuminate?		 Go to Step 7  Go to Step 6 
5 Test the DIC switch feed circuit for the following:
  • An open
  • Short to ground
  • High resistance

Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?		 Go to Step 12  Go to Step 8 
6 Test the DIC switch ground circuit for the following:
  • An open
  • High resistance

Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?		 Go to Step 12  Go to Step 8 
7 Test the DIC switch signal circuit for the following:
  • An open
  • Short to ground
  • High resistance

Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?		 Go to Step 12  Go to Step 9 
8 Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the IPC. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and to Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems
Did you find and correct the condition?		 Go to Step 12  Go to Step 10 
9 Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the DIC/dimmer switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and to Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems
Did you find and correct the condition?		 Go to Step 12  Go to Step 11 
10 Replace the IPC. Refer to Control Module References in Computer/Integrating Systems for replacement, setup, and programming.
Did you complete the replacement?		 Go to Step 12  -
11 Replace the DIC/dimmer switch. Refer to Instrument Panel (I/P) Dimmer Switch Replacement in Lighting Systems.
Did you complete the replacement?		 Go to Step 12  -
12 Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
Did you correct the condition?		 System OK Go to Step 2
