Removal Procedure

    CAUTION: Refer to SIR Caution in Cautions and Notices.
  1. Disable the SIR. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 3 and to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 5 in SIR.
  2. Remove the left knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement - Left (Without UV2)  or Knee Bolster Replacement - Left (UV2) .
  3. Remove the left knee bolster support. Refer to Knee Bolster Bracket Replacement - Left .
  4. Remove the right knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement - Right .
  5. Remove the I/P center seat or the floor console. Refer to Compartment Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) (Base and DHS)  or Compartment Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) (DTS)  in Seats, or Console Replacement - Front Floor (DTS without UV8)  or Console Replacement - Front Floor (DTS with UV8) .
  6. Remove the I/P outer trim panels. Refer to Instrument Panel (I/P) Outer Trim Cover Replacement - Right  and to Instrument Panel (I/P) Outer Trim Cover Replacement - Left .
  7. Remove the windshield pillar trim. Refer to Garnish Molding Replacement - Windshield Pillar (Standard) or Garnish Molding Replacement - Windshield Pillar (WC2, WC8) in Interior Trim.
  8. Remove the defroster grille. Refer to Defroster Grille Replacement (Without UV2)  or Defroster Grille Replacement (UV2) .
  9. Remove the I/P upper trim pad. Refer to Trim Pad Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Upper (Standard Models)  or Trim Pad Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Upper (WC2/WC8) .
  10. Remove the heads up display, if equipped. Refer to Head Up Display Replacement .

  12. Disconnect the electrical connectors (1) at the top outside corners of the I/P.
  13. Disconnect all other electrical connectors from the I/P to the body.
  14. Disconnect the steering column shaft from the steering column.

  16. Remove the bolts (1) that secure the steering column to the body. Refer to Steering Column Replacement (Floor Shift) or Steering Column Replacement (Column Shift) in Steering Wheel and Column.
  17. For a DeVille base model, or the DeVille DHS, disconnect the shift cable from the steering column.
  18. Disconnect the steering column connectors from the body.

  20. Remove the I/P center support bracket bolts (1) from the floor bracket.

  22. Remove the I/P carrier (1) to cowl nuts.

  24. Remove the bolt (1) and nuts (2) from the left and right I/P carrier to hinge pillar.

  26. Remove the I/P and carrier assembly from the vehicle.
