1 Did you review the Night Vision Description and Operation and perform the necessary inspections? Go to Step 2  Go to Symptoms - Instrument Panel, Gages and Console

  1. Position the vehicle approximately 8 meters (25 feet) from the nearest object.
  2. Cover the lower windshield with a mat.
  3. Cover the ambient light sensor.
  4. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  5. Turn the headlamps ON.
  6. Turn the head-up display (HUD) ON.
After 45 seconds, does the night vision video image appear normal?
Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems Go to Step 3 
3 Does the poor video image occur only in cold conditions with the outside air temperature less than 10°C (50°F)? Go to Step 12  Go to Step 4 
4 Inspect the lens of the night vision camera, the windshield, and the HUD for dirt or for debris. Clean as necessary.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 21  Go to Step 5 
5 Inspect the lens of the night vision camera for cracks, for scratches, or for chips.
Did you find the condition?
Go to Step 19  Go to Step 6 
6 Inspect the night vision camera alignment and adjust if needed. Refer to Night Vision Camera Aiming .
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 21  Go to Step 7

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the night vision camera.
  3. Connect a test lamp between the night vision video low signal circuit at the harness connector of the night vision camera and battery voltage.
Does the test lamp illuminate?
Go to Step 14  Go to Step 8 
8 Connect a test lamp between the night vision video high signal circuit at the harness connector of the night vision camera and battery voltage.
Does the test lamp illuminate?
Go to Step 15  Go to Step 9

  1. Disconnect C205
  2. Connect a test lamp between the drain wire circuit at the male terminal side of C205 and battery voltage.
Does the test lamp illuminate?
Go to Step 10  Go to Step 11 
10 Test the drain wire circuit from the female terminal side of C205 to the end of the drain wire circuit for an open or for a high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 21  Go to Step 17 
11 Test the drain wire circuit from C205 to the HUD connector for an open or for a high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 21  Go to Step 16 
12 Test the ignition 3 voltage circuit of the night vision camera for an open or for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 21  Go to Step 13 
13 Test the ground circuit at terminal E (first design) or C1 terminal B (second design) of the night vision camera for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 21  Go to Step 17 
14 Test the night vision video low signal circuit for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 21  Go to Step 16 
15 Test the night vision video high signal circuit for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 21  Go to Step 16 
16 Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the HUD. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and to Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 21  Go to Step 18 
17 Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the night vision camera. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and to Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 21  Go to Step 20 
18 Replace the HUD. Refer to Control Module References in Computer/Integrating Systems for replacement, setup, and programming.
Did you complete the replacement?
Go to Step 21  -
19 Replace the night vision camera lens. Refer to Night Vision Camera Protective Window Replacement (Design 2) .
Did you complete the replacement?
Go to Step 21  -
20 Replace the night vision camera. Refer to Night Vision Camera Replacement .
Did you complete the replacement?
Go to Step 21  -
21 Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
Did you correct the condition?
System OK Go to Step 2
