1 Did you review the Night Vision Description and Operation and perform the necessary inspections? - Go to Step 2  Go to Symptoms - Instrument Panel, Gages and Console

  1. Position the vehicle approximately 8 meters (25 feet) from the nearest object.
  2. Cover the lower windshield with a mat.
  3. Cover the ambient light sensor.
  4. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  5. Turn the headlamps ON.
  6. Turn the head-up display (HUD) ON.
Does the night vision video image appear on the windshield?
- Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems Go to Step 3 
3 Does the night vision display warm-up logo appear when the HUD is turned ON? - Go to Step 4  Go to Step 9

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the night vision camera.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. With a DMM, measure the voltage from the 14-volt reference circuit to a good ground.
Does the DMM display that the voltage is at or near the specified value?
12 V Go to Step 6  Go to Step 5 
5 Test the 14-volt reference circuit for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
- Go to Step 25  Go to Step 20

  1. Connect a test lamp between the ignition 3 voltage circuit and the ground circuit, at terminal B (first design) or at C2 terminal B (second design) of the night vision camera.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
Does the test lamp illuminate?
- Go to Step 7  Go to Step 10 
7 Test the night vision video high signal circuit for an open or for a short to battery voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
- Go to Step 25  Go to Step 8 
8 Test the night vision video low signal circuit for an open or for a short to battery voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
- Go to Step 25  Go to Step 19

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Install a scan tool.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. Turn the headlamps ON.
  5. With a scan tool, observe the HUD Dimming parameter in the instrument panel module (IPM) non-HVAC Data list.
Does the HUD Dimming parameter display On?
- Go to Step 12  Go to Step 11 
10 Repair the open in the ground circuit of the night vision camera. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you complete the repairs?
- Go to Step 25  -
11 Test the HUD active signal circuit for a short to battery voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
- Go to Step 25  Go to Step 17

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the HUD.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. Turn the HUD ON.
  5. Connect a test lamp between the night vision on/off switch signal circuit, at the HUD, and to battery voltage.
Does the test lamp illuminate?
- Go to Step 16  Go to Step 13 
13 Test the ground circuit of the HUD for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
- Go to Step 25  Go to Step 14 
14 Test the HUD active signal circuit for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
- Go to Step 25  Go to Step 15 
15 Test the ignition 3 voltage circuit for an open or for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
- Go to Step 25  Go to Step 20 
16 Test the night vision On/Off switch signal circuit for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
- Go to Step 25  Go to Step 18 
17 Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the IPM. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and to Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?

18 Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the HUD switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and to Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?

19 Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the night vision camera. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and to Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

20 Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the HUD. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and to Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?

21 Replace the IPM. Refer to Control Module References in Computer/Integrating Systems for replacement, setup, and programming.
Did you complete the replacement?
- Go to Step 25  -
22 Replace the HUD switch. Refer to Head Up Display Switch Replacement .
Did you complete the replacement?
- Go to Step 25  -
23 Replace the night vision camera. Refer to Night Vision Camera Replacement .
Did you complete the replacement?
- Go to Step 25  -
24 Replace the HUD. Refer to Control Module References in Computer/Integrating Systems for replacement, setup, and programming.
Did you complete the replacement?
- Go to Step 25  -
25 Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
Did you correct the condition?
- System OK Go to Step 2
