Check Oil Level

This message indicates that a low oil level exists. To reset the CHECK OIL LEVEL message, the ECM must detect a temperature reduction of the engine coolant of at least 22°C (39°F) in between ignition cycles. The ECM uses the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor in order to detect the temperature of the engine coolant. Perform the following in order to reset the Check Oil Level message:

1. Verify the correct engine oil level after repairs.
2. Start the engine and allow to reach operating temperature.
3. Turn the engine OFF and allow the engine coolant temperature to achieve the desired coolant temperature reduction.

   NOTE: confirmation of coolant temperature reduction can be accomplished with the use of a scan tool.

4. Turn the ignition ON (Run/Crank) for at least 1 second. Do not start the engine.
5. Turn the ignition OFF until the ECM de-energizes.
6. Start the engine.
7. Confirm the CHECK OIL LEVEL message is no longer displayed. If the message is displayed, check the engine oil dipstick level and add oil as needed.
