Removal Procedure

    CAUTION: Refer to SIR Caution in Cautions and Notices.
  1. Disable the SIR. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 3 and SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 5 in SIR.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure in Engine Electrical.
  3. Remove the center console. Refer to Console Replacement (w/o UV8)  or Console Replacement (w/ UV8) .
  4. Remove the fuel/rear compartment release switch. Refer to Rear Compartment Lid Switch Replacement in Body Rear End.
  5. Remove the headlamp switch. Refer to Headlamp Switch Replacement (LHD) in Lighting Systems.
  6. Remove the knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement .
  7. Remove the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement (U45) or Radio Replacement (U1R, UL6, UM5, UM9) in Entertainment.
  8. Remove the instrument panel (I/P) cluster. Refer to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Replacement .
  9. Remove the I/P storage compartment. Refer to Compartment Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) .
  10. Remove the left I/P accessory trim plate. Refer to Trim Plate Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Accessory Left (LHD)  or Trim Plate Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Accessory Left (RHD) .
  11. Remove the right I/P accessory trim plate. Refer to Trim Plate Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Accessory Right (LHD)  or Trim Plate Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Accessory Right (RHD) .
  12. Remove the I/P outer trim cover. Refer to Instrument Panel (I/P) Outer Trim Cover Replacement .

  14. Remove the I/P screws (1) from each end of the I/P retainer.

  16. Remove the I/P retainer bolt (1), located in the fuel door/rear compartment opening.

  18. Remove the HVAC duct I/P retainer bolt (1), located below the HVAC duct, on the drivers side.

  20. Remove the bolts (1) from both sides of the I/P extension bracket (2).

  22. Turn the ignition to the run position.
  23. Depress the release button (1) on the park lock cable and pull the cable, in order to disconnect the park lock cable from the ignition switch.

    The release button (1) is located on the bottom of the ignition switch at the 6 o'clock position.

  25. Remove the steering column nuts. Refer to Steering Column Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.
  26. Lower the steering column in order to allow clearance for the I/P retainer to be removed.

  28. Remove the remaining I/P retainer bolts.
  29. Partially remove the I/P retainer (1) from the I/P carrier (2).

    Disconnect the inside air temperature sensor electrical connector.

  30. Disconnect the ignition switch electrical connector.
  31. Feed the wiring through the I/P retainer openings as necessary.
  32. Remove the I/P retainer from the vehicle.
  33. Remove the Inside air temperature sensor from the I/P retainer. Refer to Inside Air Temperature Sensor Assembly Replacement (LHD) in HVAC Systems-Automatic.
  34. Remove the Ignition switch from the I/P retainer. Ignition Switch Replacement (LHD)  or Ignition Switch Replacement (RHD) .
