DEFINITION: One or more chime functions are inoperative.
1 Did you perform the Audible Warnings Diagnostic System Check? - Go to Step 2  Go to Diagnostic System Check - Audible Warnings

  1. Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF.
  2. Turn the radio ON.
  3. Adjust the radio balance and fade to the left front speaker.
Does the speaker operate properly?
- Go to Step 3  Go to Speakers Inoperative - One or More in Entertainment

  1. Turn the ignition OFF.
  2. Install a scan tool.
  3. Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF.
  4. Open the driver door.
  5. With the scan tool, observe the Driver Door Ajar Sw. parameter in the Driver Door Module Inputs data list.
Does the Driver Door Ajar Sw. parameter display On?
- Go to Step 4  Go to Door Ajar Indicator Malfunction in Doors

  1. Turn the headlamps ON.
  2. With the scan tool, observe the Head Lamp Switch parameter in the Dash Integration Module (DIM) Inputs data list.
Does the Head Lamp Switch parameter display On?
- Go to Step 5  Go to Headlamps Inoperative - Low Beams (Domestic, Europe and Japan) or Headlamps Inoperative - Low Beams (Domestic, Europe and Japan w/ HID) or Headlamps Inoperative - Low Beams (Norway/Sweden) or Headlamps Inoperative - Low Beams (Norway/Sweden w/ HID) in Lighting Systems

  1. Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF.
  2. With the scan tool, observe the Key-In-Ignition parameter in the Instrument Panel Module (IPM) Non HVAC Data list.
Does the Key-In-Ignition parameter display Yes?
- Go to Step 7  Go to Step 6

  1. Turn the ignition OFF.
  2. Disconnect the ignition switch.
  3. Connect a 3 ampere fused jumper between the key in ignition signal circuit and a good ground.
  4. With the scan tool, observe the Key-In-Ignition parameter.
Does the Key-In-Ignition parameter display Yes?
- Go to Step 9  Go to Step 8

  1. Turn the ignition OFF.
  2. Disconnect the amplifier.
  3. Insert the key into the ignition.
  4. Open the driver door.
  5. With a DMM, measure the AC voltage between the chime bit module 1 signal circuit and the chime bit module 2 signal circuit.
Does the DMM display the specified AC voltage?
0.6-0.7 V Go to Step 14  Go to Step 10 
8 Test the key in ignition signal circuit for an open or for a high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
- Go to Step 20  Go to Step 13 
9 Test the ground circuit of the key in ignition switch for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
- Go to Step 20  Go to Step 12 
10 Test the chime module bit 1 signal circuit for a for an open, for a short to ground, or for a short to voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
- Go to Step 20  Go to Step 11 
11 Test the chime module bit 2 signal circuit for a for an open, for a short to ground, or for a short to voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
- Go to Step 20  Go to Step 15 
12 Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the ignition switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and to Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
- Go to Step 20  Go to Step 16 
13 Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the IPM. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and to Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
- Go to Step 20  Go to Step 17 
14 Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the amplifier. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and to Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
- Go to Step 20  Go to Step 18 
15 Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the radio. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and to Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
- Go to Step 20  Go to Step 19 
16 Replace the ignition switch. Refer to Ignition Switch Replacement (LHD)  or Ignition Switch Replacement (RHD) .
Did you complete the replacement?
- Go to Step 20  -

IMPORTANT: Perform the set up procedure for the replacement IPM.
Replace the IPM. Refer to Instrument Panel Module Replacement (LHD) or Instrument Panel Module Replacement (RHD) in Body Control System.Did you complete the replacement?
- Go to Step 20  -
18 Replace the amplifier. Refer to Amplifier Replacement (UX9) or Amplifier Replacement (w/o UX9) in Entertainment.
Did you complete the replacement?
- Go to Step 20  -
19 Replace the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement (U45) or Radio Replacement (U1R, UL6, UM5, UM9) in Entertainment.
Did you complete the replacement?
- Go to Step 20  -
20 Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
Did you correct the condition?
- System OK Go to Step 2
