Exhaust Manifold Cleaning and Inspection

    IMPORTANT: Do not reuse exhaust manifold-to-cylinder head gaskets. Upon installation of the exhaust manifold, install a NEW gasket.
  1. Clean the exhaust manifold in solvent.
  2. CAUTION: Refer to Safety Glasses Caution in Cautions and Notices.
  3. Dry the exhaust manifold with compressed air.
  4. Inspect the exhaust manifold-to-cylinder head gasket surface for excessive scratches or gouging.
  5. Inspect for a loose or damaged heat shield.

  7. Use a straight edge and a feeler gage, and measure the exhaust manifolds for warpage. A warped exhaust manifold may cause a leak and may effect the vehicle performance. Exhaust manifolds that are warped must be replaced.
