J 36660-A  Torque Angle Meter. See Special Tools and Equipment .

  1. Install the crankshaft bearings to engine block.
  2. Install the crankshaft sensor ring.
  3. NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
  4. Install the NEW crankshaft sensor ring bolts.

    Tighten:  Tighten the crankshaft sensor ring bolts to 15 N.m (11 lb ft).

  6. Install the crankshaft position sensor.
  7. Install the crankshaft position sensor bolt.

    Tighten:  Tighten the crankshaft position sensor bolt to 8 N.m (71 lb in).

  9. Install the crankshaft to the engine block.
  10. Apply Engine Oil Supplement (EOS), GM P/N 1052367, (Canadian P/N 992869), to the bearing surfaces.
  11. Install the main bearings to the main bearing caps.

  13. Apply RTV sealer, GM P/N 12346286 (Canadian P/N 10953472), or equivalent, in the groove on the side of the fourth main bearing cap.

  15. Install the main bearing caps to the engine block. Place the main bearing caps in numerical order.

  17. Install the crankshaft bearing bridge.
  18. Use new main bearing cap bolts or damage may occur when the final tightening is performed.
  19. Install the main bearing cap bolts loosely.

  21. Back off the crankshaft bearing bridge adjusting sleeves until the bushings do not contact the engine block when the bridge is fully seated.

    Tighten:  Tighten the main bearing cap bolts to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).

  22. Use the J 36660-A  to rotate the main bearing cap bolts in the following sequence:

    Tighten: 

    1. The first pass rotate the main bearing cap bolts 60 degrees.
    2. The second and the final pass rotate the main bearing cap bolts an additional 15 degrees.

  23. Apply thread adhesive, GM P/N 12345493, (Canadian P/N 10953488), or equivalent to the crankshaft bearing bridge adjusting sleeves.

    Tighten:  Tighten the crankshaft adjusting sleeves to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).

  25. Install the crankshaft bearing bridge bolts (1).

    Tighten:  Tighten the crankshaft bearing bridge bolts to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).
