Diagnostic Aids

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.

An intermittent condition could be caused by an improperly installed or damaged EVAP canister purge solenoid valve or a temporary blockage in the EVAP canister purge solenoid valve. Inspect for blockage in the EVAP system.

1 Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check-Engine Controls? - Go to Step 2  Go to Diagnostic System Check - Engine Controls
2 Is DTC P0443, P0449, P0451, P0452, P0453, P0458 P0459, P0498, or P0499 also set? - Go to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List Go to Step 3

  1. Remove the fuel fill cap.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. Observe the fuel tank vacuum press. with a scan tool.
Is the fuel tank vacuum press. parameter within the specified range?		 -0.5 to +0.5 in H2O Go to Step 4  Go to DTC P0451

  1. Disconnect the evaporative emission (EVAP) purge pipe from the EVAP canister purge solenoid valve.
  2. Install a hand held vacuum gage to the purge port on the EVAP canister purge solenoid valve.
  3. Disconnect the EVAP canister purge solenoid valve harness connector.
  4. Monitor vacuum on the vacuum gage.
  5. Start the engine.
  6. Increase the engine speed to the specified range.
Does the gage indicate an increase in vacuum?		 1,200-1,500 RPM Go to Step 5  Go to Diagnostic Aids
5 Replace the EVAP canister purge solenoid valve. Refer to Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Canister Purge Solenoid Valve Replacement .
Did you complete the replacement?		 - Go to Step 6  -

  1. Clear the DTCs with a scan tool.
  2. Turn OFF the ignition for 30 seconds.
  3. Start the engine.
  4. Operate the vehicle within the Conditions For Running the DTC. You may also operate the vehicle within the conditions that you observed from the Freeze Frame/Failure Records.
Did the DTC fail this ignition?		 - Go to Step 3  Go to Steps 7 
7 Observe the Capture Info with a scan tool.
Are there any DTCs that have not been diagnosed?		 - Go to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List System OK
