Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
    IMPORTANT: The following procedure is for supporting the engine in the vehicle. The engine support hooks that are part of the J 41803  is for supporting the engine in the vehicle only. The J 41798  are used for lifting the engine once the engine is removed. Installation instructions for the J 41798  are included at the end of this procedure.
  1. Remove the fuel injector sight shield. Refer to Fuel Injector Sight Shield Replacement .
  2. Install an engine support hook from the J 41803  to the front of the right cylinder head in the location shown. See Special Tools and Equipment . Follow the tool instructions for the proper bolt size and torque.

  4. Remove the coil assembly from the left cylinder head. Refer to Ignition Coil(s) Replacement in Engine Controls - 5.7L.
  5. Install the remaining engine support hook from the J 41803  to the left cylinder head in the location shown. See Special Tools and Equipment . Place washers between the hook and the cylinder head to allow for clearance to the rocker cover. Ensure that the bolt used is long enough to allow for proper thread engagement.

  7. Assemble the J 28467-501  (1) to each end of the J 28467-518 (2) main support beam.

  9. Place the rail support and beam support assembly on top of both the left and right fender lips, over the left cylinder head support hook.

  11. Install the round tube of the front support assembly J 28467-4A through the large hole in the radiator shelf tube J 28467-2A.
  12. Remove the upper tie bar cover.
  13. Locate the J 28467-4A front support assembly to the upper tie bar.
  14. Install the J 28467-9 7/16 inch x 2.0 inch quick-release pin through the top hole in the J 28467-4A front support assembly.

  16. Attach the radiator shelf tube (2) to the bottom of the main support beam (1) using the J 28467-1A cross bracket assembly. Ensure that the radiator shelf tube is inline with the right engine support hook.
  17. Install the lift hook assembly J 28467-7A (3) to the radiator shelf tube (2). Install the lift hook to the right cylinder head support hook.
  18. Install the lift hook assembly J 28467-7A (4) to the main support beam (1) over the left cylinder head support hook. Install the lift hook to the left cylinder head support hook.
  19. Hand tighten the lift hook (3, 4) wing nuts in order to remove all slack from the engine support fixture.
  20. The engine is now supported in the vehicle to perform repairs that require front frame removal.

  22. The J 41798  are used to lift the engine once the engine is removed from the vehicle.
  23. Remove the right bank coil assembly. Refer to Ignition Coil(s) Replacement in Engine Controls - 5.7L.
  24. Remove the 2 right rear cylinder spark plug wires.
  25. Remove the negative battery cable from the right rear cylinder head. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Replacement (LHD) or Battery Negative Cable Replacement (RHD) or Battery Negative Cable Replacement (LS6) in Engine Electrical.
  26. Install the J 41798-1 engine lift bracket to the right cylinder head following the directions found on the tool.
  27. Remove the left bank coil assembly. Refer to Ignition Coil(s) Replacement in Engine Controls - 5.7L.
  28. Remove the 2 front left cylinder spark plug wires.
  29. Install the J 41798-2 engine lift bracket to the left cylinder head following the directions found on the tool.
