Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the engine assembly. Refer to Engine Replacement .
  2. Remove the intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement .

  4. Remove the left cylinder head. Refer to Cylinder Head Replacement - Left .

  6. Remove the right cylinder head. Refer to Cylinder Head Replacement - Right .

  8. Remove the camshaft sensor. Refer to Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor Replacement in Engine Controls - 5.7L.

  10. Remove the engine front cover. Refer to Engine Front Cover Replacement .

  12. Remove the valve lifter guide bolts (211).
  13. Remove the valve lifters and guides. Refer to Valve Lifter Removal .

  15. Rotate the engine in order to align the timing marks.

  17. Remove the camshaft sprocket bolts.
  18. Remove the timing chain from the camshaft sprocket, and allow the chain to rest on the crankshaft sprocket.

  20. Remove the camshaft retainer bolts and retainer.
  21. Remove the camshaft. Refer to Camshaft Removal .
  22. IMPORTANT: Rear cover removal is not required, if the camshaft bearings are not being replaced.
  23. If the camshaft bearings need replacement, remove the rear engine cover and gasket. Refer toEngine Rear Cover Removal .
  24. Remove the camshaft bearings if required. Refer to Camshaft Bearing Removal .
