Removal Procedure

- Remove the engine assembly. Refer to Engine Replacement .
- Remove the intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement .
- Remove the left cylinder head. Refer to Cylinder Head Replacement - Left .
- Remove the right cylinder head. Refer to Cylinder Head Replacement - Right .
- Remove the camshaft sensor. Refer to Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor Replacement in Engine Controls - 5.7L.
- Remove the engine front cover. Refer to Engine Front Cover Replacement .
- Remove the valve lifter guide bolts (211).
- Remove the valve lifters and guides. Refer to Valve Lifter Removal .
- Rotate the engine in order to align the timing marks.
- Remove the camshaft sprocket bolts.
- Remove the timing chain from the camshaft sprocket, and allow the chain to rest on the crankshaft sprocket.
- Remove the camshaft retainer bolts and retainer.
- Remove the camshaft. Refer to Camshaft Removal .
- If the camshaft bearings need replacement, remove the rear engine cover and gasket. Refer toEngine Rear Cover Removal .
- Remove the camshaft bearings if required. Refer to Camshaft Bearing Removal .
IMPORTANT:
Rear cover removal is not required, if the camshaft bearings are not being replaced.
