Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. Install the NEW camshaft bearings, if previously removed. Refer to Camshaft Bearing Installation .
  2. Install the rear engine cover. Refer to Engine Rear Cover Installation .
  3. Install the camshaft, the camshaft retainer, and the bolts. Refer to Camshaft Installation .

    4. Fig 2: View Of Camshaft Sprocket, Timing Chain & Retaining Bolts

  4. Install the timing chain to the camshaft sprocket.
  5. Install the camshaft sprocket and bolts to the camshaft. Refer to Timing Chain and Sprockets Installation .

  6. Ensure that the timing marks are aligned.

  7. Install the valve lifters, valve guides, and bolts (211). Refer to Valve Lifter Installation .

  8. Install the engine front cover. Refer to Engine Front Cover Installation .

  9. Install the camshaft sensor. Refer to Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor Replacement in Engine Controls - 5.7L.

  10. Install the right cylinder head. Refer to Cylinder Head Installation - Right .

  11. Install the left cylinder head. Refer to Cylinder Head Installation - Left .

  12. Install the intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Installation .
  13. Install the engine assembly. Refer to Engine Replacement .
  14. Change the engine oil and filter. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement .
  15. Fill the cooling system to the proper level. Refer toCapacities - Approximate Fluid in Maintenance and Lubrication.
  16. Check the engine for fluid leaks.
