Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the shift control knob. Refer to Shift Control Knob Replacement .

  3. Remove the sound insulator foam block from the console.

  5. Remove the bolts (2) securing the shift control assembly to the shift control adapter plate.
  6. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  8. Remove the exhaust system. Refer to Exhaust System Replacement (LA3, LY9) , Exhaust System Replacement (LY7) or Exhaust System Replacement (LS6) in Engine Exhaust.

  10. Remove the propeller shaft (6). Refer to Propeller Shaft Replacement (Automatic Transmission) , Propeller Shaft Replacement (Manual Transmission) or Propeller Shaft Replacement (CTS-V) in Propeller Shaft.
  11. Support the transmission with a suitable jack.

  13. Remove the transmission support. Refer to Transmission Support Replacement in Frame and Underbody.
  14. Lower the transmission assembly to gain access to the top of the transmission.

  16. Using a flat blade tool, release the right side shift control rod pin retainer.

  18. Remove the shift control rod pin.

  20. Using a flat blade tool, release the left side shift control rod pin retainer. The graphic shows the transmission removed for clarity.

  22. Remove the shift control rod pin.

  24. Using a flat blade tool, release the center shift control rod pin retainer. The graphic shows the transmission removed for clarity.

  26. Remove the center shift control rod pin retainer.

  28. Remove the shift control assembly from the transmission. Remove the shift control assembly from the vehicle.
