DEFINITION: This table is for vehicles equipped with park lamp daytime running lamps.
1 Did you perform the Lighting System Diagnostic System Check? Go to Step 2  Go to Diagnostic System Check - Lighting Systems

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Verify that the headlamp switch is in the OFF position.
  3. Verify that the fog lamp switch is in the OFF position.
  4. Verify that the hazard switch is in the OFF position.
  5. Verify that the windshield wipers is in the OFF position.
  6. Expose the ambient light sensor to a bright light.
  7. Press and hold the brake pedal.
  8. Move the gear selector out of the PARK position on vehicles equipped with automatic transmissions or release the parking brake on vehicles equipped with manual transmissions.
  9. Wait more than 3 seconds.
Do the daytime running lights (DRL) headlamps operate properly?
Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems Go to Step 3 
3 Do the hazard flashers operate properly? Go to Step 4  Go to Hazard Lamps Inoperative 
4 Does the vehicle have a manual transmission? Go to Step 5  Go to Step 6 
5 With a scan tool, observe the parking brake input parameter in the instrument panel cluster (IPC) data list.
Does the scan tool display an OFF status?
Go to Step 6  Go to Diagnostic System Check - Hydraulic Brakes in Hydraulic Brakes
6 With a scan tool, observe the Daytime Running Lamp parameter in the dash integration module (DIM) Outputs data list.
Does the scan tool display ON?
Go to Step 7  Go to Step 10

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Connect a test lamp between the DRL relay control circuit at the turn signal/hazard/flasher module and battery positive voltage.
  3. With a scan tool command the Daytime Running Lamps ON and OFF several times from the DIM output control data list.
Does the test lamp turn ON and OFF with each command?
Go to Step 9  Go to Step 8 
8 Test the DRL relay control circuit for an open or short to battery voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 13  Go to Step 10 
9 Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the turn signal/hazard/flasher module. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 13  Go to Step 11 
10 Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the DIM. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 13  Go to Step 12 
11 Replace the turn signal/hazard/flasher module. Refer to Hazard and Turn Signal Flasher Replacement .
Did you complete the replacement?
Go to Step 13  -

IMPORTANT: Perform the setup procedure for the DIM.
Replace the DIM. Refer to Dash Integration Module Replacement in Body Control Systems.Did you complete the replacement?
Go to Step 13  -
13 Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
Did you correct the condition?
System OK Go to Step 2
