Removal Procedure

CAUTION: Refer to SIR CAUTION in Cautions and Notices.
  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to ZONE 3 and ZONE 5 in Air Bag Restraint Systems.
  2. Remove the left and the right windshield garnish molding. Refer to INTERIOR TRIM  in Interior Trim.
  3. Remove the instrument panel (I/P) air outlet deflectors. Refer to DEFLECTOR REPLACEMENT -- INSTRUMENT PANEL AIR in Heater, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning.
  4. Close the air outlets (1) in order to prevent the upper trim pad fasteners from falling into the HVAC ducts.

  5. Remove the fasteners (2) from the inside of the air outlet deflector openings in the upper pad.

  6. Lift the I/P pad (1) upward from rear edge, over the I/P cluster, in order to disengage the retainers from the I/P cluster trim plate.
  7. Lift the pad on an angle, and slide the pad rearward in order to disengage the retainers at the front of the I/P. Push down on right front edge of the pad in order to disengage the retainer from the carrier forward of the PSIR location.
  8. Disconnect the electrical connector (1).

  9. Remove the trim pad (2) from the vehicle.
  10. If you are replacing the I/P upper pad, remove the speakers from the trim pad. Refer to ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM  in Entertainment.
  11. Straighten the mounting tabs for the speaker grilles. Remove the speaker grilles from the trim pad.
  12. Remove the speaker wiring harness from the trim pad.
