Removal Procedure

CAUTION: Refer to SIR CAUTION in Cautions and Notices.
CAUTION: Refer to BATTERY DISCONNECT CAUTION in Cautions and Notices.
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to BATTERY NEGATIVE CABLE DISCONNECT/CONNECT PROCEDURE in Battery.
  2. Disable the SIR. Refer to ZONE 3 and ZONE 5 in Air Bag Restraint Systems.
  3. Remove the center console. Refer to CONSOLE REPLACEMENT (W/O UV8)   or CONSOLE REPLACEMENT (W/ UV8)   . 
  4. Remove the instrument panel (I/P) center trim plate. Refer to TRIM PANEL REPLACEMENT - INSTRUMENT PANEL (I/P) CENTER   . 
  5. Remove the radio. Refer to RADIO REPLACEMENT (U45)  or RADIO REPLACEMENT (U1R, UL6, UM5, UM9)  in Entertainment.
  6. Remove the HVAC control assembly. Refer to HVAC CONTROL MODULE REPLACEMENT  in HVAC Automatic.
  7. Remove the right and the left sound insulators. Refer to CLOSEOUT/INSULATOR PANEL REPLACEMENT RIGHT (LHD)   or CLOSEOUT/INSULATOR PANEL REPLACEMENT - RIGHT (RHD)   . 
  8. Remove the I/P outer trim covers. Refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL (I/P) OUTER TRIM COVER REPLACEMENT   . 
  9. Remove the I/P upper trim pad. Refer to TRIM PAD REPLACEMENT - INSTRUMENT PANEL (I/P) UPPER   . 
  10. Remove the defroster grille. Refer to DEFROSTER GRILLE REPLACEMENT   . 
  11. Remove the knee bolster. Refer to KNEE BOLSTER REPLACEMENT   . 
  12. Disconnect the body-to-I/P electrical connectors (1) at the top outside corners of the I/P.

  13. Remove the steering column. Refer to STEERING COLUMN REPLACEMENT  in Steering Wheel and Column.
  14. For RHD (Right Hand Drive) only, remove the park brake cable from the park brake pedal assembly. Refer to PARK BRAKE PEDAL ASSEMBLY in Disc.
  15. Remove the I/P extension bolts (1).

  16. Remove the I/P carrier to the cowl nuts (1).

  17. Remove the 6 bolts (2) from the I/P carrier to the hinge pillar. Three bolts are on the left hinge pillar and 3 bolts are on the right hinge pillar (3).

  18. Remove the I/P carrier from the vehicle.
  19. Remove the I/P cluster trim panel. Refer to TRIM PANEL REPLACEMENT - INSTRUMENT PANEL (I/P) CLUSTER   . 
  20. Remove the passenger side inflator module from the I/P retainer. Refer to AIR BAG MODULES in Air Bag Restraint Systems.
  21. Remove the left trim plate. Refer to TRIM PLATE REPLACEMENT - INSTRUMENT PANEL (I/P) ACCESSORY LEFT (LHD)   or TRIM PLATE REPLACEMENT - INSTRUMENT PANEL (I/P) ACCESSORY LEFT (RHD)   . 
  22. Remove the I/P cluster. Refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) REPLACEMENT   . 
  23. Remove the right I/P trim plate from the I/P carrier. Refer to TRIM PLATE REPLACEMENT - INSTRUMENT PANEL (I/P) ACCESSORY RIGHT (LHD)   or TRIM PLATE REPLACEMENT - INSTRUMENT PANEL (I/P) ACCESSORY RIGHT (RHD)   . 
  24. Remove the ignition switch from the I/P. Refer to IGNITION SWITCH REPLACEMENT (LHD)   or IGNITION SWITCH REPLACEMENT (RHD)   . 
  25. Remove the headlamp lamp switch. Refer to HEADLAMP SWITCH REPLACEMENT (LHD)  in Lighting Systems.
  26. Remove the fuel door/rear compartment release switch. Refer to BODY REAR END  in Body Rear End.
  27. Remove the I/P storage compartment from the I/P. Refer to COMPARTMENT REPLACEMENT - INSTRUMENT PANEL (I/P)   . 
  28. Remove the bolts that retain the I/P retainer to the carrier.
  29. Partially remove the I/P retainer from the carrier. Guide the wiring through the openings.
  30. Disconnect the inside air temperature sensor electrical connector.
  31. Remove the I/P retainer from the vehicle.
  32. Remove the inside temperature sensor from the I/P retainer. Refer to INSIDE AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT (LHD)  or INSIDE AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT (RHD)  in HVAC Systems-Automatic.
  33. Disconnect the park lock cable from the I/P. Refer to PARK LOCK CABLE REPLACEMENT (LHD)  or PARK LOCK CABLE REPLACEMENT (RHD)  in Automatic Transmission - 4T80-E.
  34. Remove the A/C temperature sensors from the left and the right air distribution ducts. Refer to HVAC CONTROL MODULE REPLACEMENT  in HVAC Systems-Automatic.
  35. Remove the bolts that retain the left and the right air distribution ducts.
  36. Remove the air distribution ducts from the vehicle.
  37. Remove the screws from the left and the right side window defroster ducts.
  38. Remove the left and right side window defroster ducts.
  39. Remove the theft deterrent module and the mounting bracket from the I/P carrier. Refer to THEFT DETERRENT CONTROL MODULE REPLACEMENT  in Theft Deterrent.
  40. Remove the I/P wiring harness from the I/P carrier.
  41. Remove the slip bracket bolts (1).
  42. Remove the slip brackets (2) from the I/P carrier.
