Removal Procedure
CAUTION:

CAUTION:

in Cautions and Notices.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to BATTERY NEGATIVE CABLE DISCONNECT/CONNECT PROCEDURE in Battery.
- Disable the SIR. Refer to ZONE 3 and ZONE 5 in Air Bag Restraint Systems.
- Remove the center console. Refer to CONSOLE REPLACEMENT (W/O UV8) or CONSOLE REPLACEMENT (W/ UV8) .
- Remove the instrument panel (I/P) center trim plate. Refer to TRIM PANEL REPLACEMENT - INSTRUMENT PANEL (I/P) CENTER .
- Remove the radio. Refer to RADIO REPLACEMENT (U45) or RADIO REPLACEMENT (U1R, UL6, UM5, UM9) in Entertainment.
- Remove the HVAC control assembly. Refer to HVAC CONTROL MODULE REPLACEMENT in HVAC Automatic.
- Remove the right and the left sound insulators. Refer to CLOSEOUT/INSULATOR PANEL REPLACEMENT RIGHT (LHD) or CLOSEOUT/INSULATOR PANEL REPLACEMENT - RIGHT (RHD) .
- Remove the I/P outer trim covers. Refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL (I/P) OUTER TRIM COVER REPLACEMENT .
- Remove the I/P upper trim pad. Refer to TRIM PAD REPLACEMENT - INSTRUMENT PANEL (I/P) UPPER .
- Remove the defroster grille. Refer to DEFROSTER GRILLE REPLACEMENT .
- Remove the knee bolster. Refer to KNEE BOLSTER REPLACEMENT .
- Disconnect the body-to-I/P electrical connectors (1) at the top outside corners of the I/P.
- Remove the steering column. Refer to STEERING COLUMN REPLACEMENT in Steering Wheel and Column.
- For RHD (Right Hand Drive) only, remove the park brake cable from the park brake pedal assembly. Refer to PARK BRAKE PEDAL ASSEMBLY in Disc.
- Remove the I/P extension bolts (1).
- Remove the I/P carrier to the cowl nuts (1).
- Remove the 6 bolts (2) from the I/P carrier to the hinge pillar. Three bolts are on the left hinge pillar and 3 bolts are on the right hinge pillar (3).
- Remove the I/P carrier from the vehicle.
- Remove the I/P cluster trim panel. Refer to TRIM PANEL REPLACEMENT - INSTRUMENT PANEL (I/P) CLUSTER .
- Remove the passenger side inflator module from the I/P retainer. Refer to AIR BAG MODULES in Air Bag Restraint Systems.
- Remove the left trim plate. Refer to TRIM PLATE REPLACEMENT - INSTRUMENT PANEL (I/P) ACCESSORY LEFT (LHD) or TRIM PLATE REPLACEMENT - INSTRUMENT PANEL (I/P) ACCESSORY LEFT (RHD) .
- Remove the I/P cluster. Refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) REPLACEMENT .
- Remove the right I/P trim plate from the I/P carrier. Refer to TRIM PLATE REPLACEMENT - INSTRUMENT PANEL (I/P) ACCESSORY RIGHT (LHD) or TRIM PLATE REPLACEMENT - INSTRUMENT PANEL (I/P) ACCESSORY RIGHT (RHD) .
- Remove the ignition switch from the I/P. Refer to IGNITION SWITCH REPLACEMENT (LHD) or IGNITION SWITCH REPLACEMENT (RHD) .
- Remove the headlamp lamp switch. Refer to HEADLAMP SWITCH REPLACEMENT (LHD) in Lighting Systems.
- Remove the fuel door/rear compartment release switch. Refer to BODY REAR END in Body Rear End.
- Remove the I/P storage compartment from the I/P. Refer to COMPARTMENT REPLACEMENT - INSTRUMENT PANEL (I/P) .
- Remove the bolts that retain the I/P retainer to the carrier.
- Partially remove the I/P retainer from the carrier. Guide the wiring through the openings.
- Disconnect the inside air temperature sensor electrical connector.
- Remove the I/P retainer from the vehicle.
- Remove the inside temperature sensor from the I/P retainer. Refer to INSIDE AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT (LHD) or INSIDE AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT (RHD) in HVAC Systems-Automatic.
- Disconnect the park lock cable from the I/P. Refer to PARK LOCK CABLE REPLACEMENT (LHD) or PARK LOCK CABLE REPLACEMENT (RHD) in Automatic Transmission - 4T80-E.
- Remove the A/C temperature sensors from the left and the right air distribution ducts. Refer to HVAC CONTROL MODULE REPLACEMENT in HVAC Systems-Automatic.
- Remove the bolts that retain the left and the right air distribution ducts.
- Remove the air distribution ducts from the vehicle.
- Remove the screws from the left and the right side window defroster ducts.
- Remove the left and right side window defroster ducts.
- Remove the theft deterrent module and the mounting bracket from the I/P carrier. Refer to THEFT DETERRENT CONTROL MODULE REPLACEMENT in Theft Deterrent.
- Remove the I/P wiring harness from the I/P carrier.
- Remove the slip bracket bolts (1).
- Remove the slip brackets (2) from the I/P carrier.
