Removal Procedure

CAUTION: Refer to SIR HANDLING CAUTION .
  1. Disable the SIR. Refer to DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM .
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to BATTERY NEGATIVE CABLE DISCONNECT/CONNECT PRO .
  3. Remove the center console. Refer to Console Replacement (w/o UV8)  or Console Replacement (with UV8) 
  4. Remove the fuel/rear compartment release switch. Refer to REAR COMPARTMENT LID SWITCH REPLACEMENT .
  5. Remove the headlamp switch. Refer to HEADLAMP SWITCH REPLACEMENT (LHD) .
  6. Remove the knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement 
  7. Remove the radio. Refer to RADIO REPLACEMENT (U1R, UL6, UM5, UM9) or RADIO REPLACEMENT (U3Q, U3R, U3S) .
  8. Remove the IP cluster. Refer to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Replacement 
  9. Remove the IP storage compartment. Refer to Compartment Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) 
  10. Remove the left IP accessory trim plate. Refer to Trim Plate Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Accessory Left (LHD)  or Trim Plate Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Accessory Left (RHD)

  11. Remove the right IP accessory trim plate. Refer to Trim Plate Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Accessory Right (LHD)  or Trim Plate Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Accessory Right (RHD) 
  12. Remove the IP outer trim cover. Refer to Instrument Panel (I/P) Outer Trim Cover Replacement 
  13. Remove the IP screws (1) from each end of the IP retainer.
  14. Remove the IP retainer bolt (1), located in the fuel door/ rear compartment opening.

  15. Remove the HVAC duct/ IP retainer bolt (1), located below the HVAC duct, on the drivers side.

  16. Remove the bolts (1) from both sides of the IP extension bracket (2).

  17. Turn the ignition to the run position.
  18. Depress the release button (1) on the park lock cable and pull the cable, in order to disconnect the park lock cable from the ignition switch.

    The release button (1) is located on the bottom of the ignition switch at the 6 o'clock position.

  19. Remove the steering column nuts. Refer to STEERING WHEEL REPLACEMENT .
  20. Lower the steering column in order to allow clearance for the IP retainer to be removed.

  21. Remove the remaining IP retainer bolts.
  22. Partially remove the IP retainer (1) from the IP carrier (2).

    Disconnect the inside air temperature sensor electrical connector.

  23. Disconnect the ignition switch electrical connector.
  24. Feed the wiring through the IP retainer openings as necessary.
  25. Remove the IP retainer from the vehicle.
  26. Remove the Inside air temperature sensor from the IP retainer. Refer to AIR TEMPERATURE SENSORS .
  27. Remove the Ignition switch from the IP retainer. Ignition Switch Replacement (LHD)  or Ignition Switch Replacement (RHD)
