Cargo Door Ajar Indicator Inoperative

1 Did you perform the Body Rear End Diagnostic System Check? Go to Step 2  Go to Diagnostic System Check - Body Rear End 
2 Open the lift glass or cargo doors.
Did the cargo door ajar indicator illuminate?
Go to TESTING FOR INTERMITTENT AND POOR CONNECTIONS Go to Step 3

  1. Connect a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. With a scan tool, command the cargo door ajar indicator ON and OFF.
Does the message turn on and off with each command?
Go to Step 4  Go to Step 12

  1. Open the cargo door or lift glass.
  2. With a scan tool, observe the cargo door or lift glass ajar switch parameter in the BCM data list.
Does the scan tool display the switch as active?
Go to Step 9  Go to Step 5

  1. Gain access to and disconnect the cargo door or lift glass ajar switch.
  2. Connect a 3 amp jumper wire between the signal circuit of the switch and the ground circuit of the switch.
  3. With a scan tool, observe the cargo door or lift glass ajar switch parameter in the BCM data list.
Does the scan tool display the switch as active?
Go to Step 8  Go to Step 6 
6 Test the cargo door or lift glass ajar switch signal circuit for an open, high resistance and a short to voltage. Refer to CIRCUIT TESTING , TESTING FOR CONTINUITY and TESTING FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE .
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 13  Go to Step 7 
7 Test the cargo door or lift glass ajar switch ground circuit for an open and high resistance. Refer to CIRCUIT TESTING and TESTING FOR CONTINUITY .
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 13  Go to Step 8 
8 Inspect for poor connections at the cargo door or lift glass ajar switch(s). Refer to TESTING FOR INTERMITTENT AND POOR CONNECTIONS and CONNECTOR REPAIRS .
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 13  Go to Step 10 
9 Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the body control module (BCM). Refer to TESTING FOR INTERMITTENT AND POOR CONNECTIONS and CONNECTOR REPAIRS .
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 13  Go to Step 11 
10 Replace the door ajar switch. Refer to Latch Replacement - Liftgate  or Latch Replacement - Door (Cargo Door Lower)  or Latch Replacement - Door (Cargo Door Upper) .
Did you complete the replacement?
Go to Step 13  -

IMPORTANT: When replacing the BCM refer to BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) PROGRAMMING/RPO CONFIGURATION . Replace the body control module (BCM). Refer to BODY CONTROL MODULE REPLACEMENT .
Did you complete the replacement?
Go to Step 13  -
12 Replace the instrument panel cluster. Refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) REPLACEMENT .
Did you complete the replacement?
Go to Step 13  -
13 Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
Did you correct the condition?
System OK Go to Step 3
