Luggage Compartment Description & Operation (General)

The rear compartment lid release system consists of the following components:

• Rear compartment lid release switch
• Rear compartment lid release relay
• Body Control Module (BCM)
• Instrument cluster

When the rear compartment lid release lid release switch is operated, the trunk release switch input is grounded in the instrument cluster. The instrument cluster will send a class 2 message to the body control module (BCM). The BCM will ground the coil side of the rear compartment lid release relay. When the coil side of the rear compartment lid release relay is grounded the switch side contacts close and energize the rear compartment lid release actuator. The rear compartment lid will release.
