Disabling System

WARNING: Accidental air bag deployment is possible. Personal injury could result. Read and follow service precautions. See AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS .
NOTE: When SIR fuse is removed and ignition is on, AIR BAG warning light will be on. This does not indicate a system malfunction.
  1. Turn steering wheel to place vehicle wheels in straight-ahead position. Turn ignition off and remove key.
  2. Remove rear seat. See REAR SEAT ASSEMBLY  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Remove SIR fuse (15-amp) from fuse block, located under left rear seat cushion. Remove driver-side sound insulator panel. Remove Connector Position Assurance (CPA) clip and disconnect driver-side air bag Yellow 2-pin connector, located at base of steering column. See Fig 1.
  3. Remove passenger-side sound insulator panel. Remove CPA clip and disconnect passenger-side air bag Yellow 2-pin connector, located behind sound insulator panel. See Fig 2.
  4. Remove both CPA clips and disconnect driver side impact air bag module and seat belt pretensioner Yellow 6-pin connector, located under driver seat. See Fig 3. Remove both CPA clips and disconnect passenger side impact air bag module and seat belt pretensioner Yellow 6-pin connector, located under front passenger seat.
  5. Remove rear seat back. See REAR SEAT ASSEMBLY  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Remove CPA clip and disconnect left rear seat side impact air bag module connector. See Fig 4. Remove CPA clip and disconnect right seat side impact air bag module connector.
