Park Brake Will Not Hold

  1. Did you perform the Park Brake Diagnostic System Check? If so, go to next step. If not, see DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Turn OFF the ignition. Install a scan tool. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. With a scan tool, command the park brake relay A ON and OFF. Does the park brake relay A turn ON and OFF with each command? If so, go to next step. If not, go to step  4 .
  3. With a scan tool, command the park brake relay B ON and OFF. Does the park brake relay B turn ON and OFF with each command? If so, go to step  6 . If not, go to step  5 .
  4. Turn OFF the ignition. Disconnect the Rear Integration Module (RIM). Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. Attempt to set the park brake. Does the park brake set? If so, go to step  11 . If not, go to step  8 .
  5. Turn OFF the ignition. Disconnect the Rear Integration Module (RIM). Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. Attempt to set the park brake. Does the park brake set? If so, go to step  11 . If not, go to step  9 .
  6. Test the supply voltage circuit of the park brake relay A for a short to voltage. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to step  19 . If not, go to next step.
  7. Test the supply voltage circuit of the park brake relay B for a short to voltage. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to step  19 . If not, go to step  10 .
  8. Test the control circuit of the park brake relay A for a short to ground. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to step  19 . If not, go to step  15 .
  9. Test the control circuit of the park brake relay B for a short to ground. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to step  19 . If not, go to step  16 .
  10. Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the park brake release solenoid. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to step  19 . If not, go to step  12 .
  11. Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the Rear Integration Module (RIM). See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to step  19 . If not, go to step  18 .
  12. Inspect the park brake system for proper operation. See PARK BRAKE SYSTEM TESTING  under SYSTEM TESTING. If so, go to step  19 . If not, go to next step.
  13. Inspect the disc brake system for proper operation. See DISC BRAKE SYSTEM TESTING  under SYSTEM TESTING. Did you find and correct a condition? If so, go to step  19 . If not, go to next step.
  14. Inspect the hydraulic brake system for proper operation. See BRAKE SYSTEM TESTING  under SYSTEM TESTING. Did you find and correct a condition? If so, go to step  19 . If not, go to step  17 .
  15. Replace the park brake relay A. When finished, go to step  17 .
  16. Replace the park brake relay B. When finished, go to step  17 .
  17. Replace the park brake release solenoid. See PARK BRAKE RELEASE SOLENOID  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. When finished, go to step  17 .
  18. Replace the Rear Integration Module (RIM). See appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. When finished, go to next step.
  19. Operate the system in order to verify the repair. Did you correct the condition? If so, then repair is complete. If not, go to step  2 .
