Brake Warning Indicator Always On

  1. Did you perform the Hydraulic Brake Diagnostic System Check? If so, go to next step. If not, go to DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Inspect the brake fluid level. Is the brake fluid level Okay? If so, go to next step. If not, go to BRAKE FLUID LOSS  .
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. Release the park brake. With a scan tool, observe the PARK BRAKE SWITCH parameter in the INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER data list. Does the scan tool indicate that the PARK BRAKE SWITCH parameter is Off? If so, go to next step. If not, go to  5 .
  4. With a scan tool, observe the BRAKE FLUID LEVEL parameter in the INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER data list. Does the scan tool indicate that the BRAKE FLUID LEVEL parameter is Okay? If so, condition is intermittent. If not, go to  6 .
  5. Turn OFF the ignition. Disconnect the park brake switch. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. With a scan tool, observe the PARK BRAKE SWITCH parameter. Does the scan tool indicate that the PARK BRAKE SWITCH parameter is Off? If so, go to  9 . If not, go to  7 .
  6. Turn OFF the ignition. Disconnect the brake fluid level switch. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. With a scan tool, observe the BRAKE FLUID LEVEL parameter. Does the scan tool indicate that the BRAKE FLUID LEVEL parameter is OK? If so, go to  10 . If not, go to  8 .
  7. Test the signal circuit of the park brake switch for a short to ground. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to  15 . If not, go to  11 .
  8. Test the signal circuit of the brake fluid level switch for a short to ground. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to  15 . If not, go to  11 .
  9. Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the park brake switch. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to  15 . If not, go to  12 .
  10. Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the brake fluid level switch. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to  15 . If not, go to  13 .
  11. Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the instrument cluster (IPC). Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to  15 . If not, go to  14 .
  12. Replace the park brake switch. See PARK BRAKE WARNING LAMP SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Did you complete the repair? If so, go to  15 .
  13. Replace the brake fluid level switch. See MASTER CYLINDER FLUID LEVEL SENSOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Did you complete the repair? If so, go to  15 .
  14. Replace the IPC. See appropriate INSTRUMENT PANEL article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. Did you complete the repair? If so, go to next step.
  15. Operate the system in order to verify the repair. Did you correct the condition? If so, system is okay. If not, go to  2 .
