Vacuum Brake Booster: Installation

  1. Install the vacuum brake booster mounting gasket to the booster, if removed previously. Install the vacuum brake booster to the vehicle. Install the brake pedal assembly to booster stud mounting nuts to the booster studs. Tighten the brake pedal assembly to booster stud mounting nuts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  2. Apply a small amount of lubricant, GM P/N 12346293 or equivalent to the clevis pin of the brake pedal. Connect the vacuum brake booster pushrod to the brake pedal clevis pin. Install the foam spacer to the brake pedal clevis pin. Install the retainer clip to the brake pedal assembly clevis pin.
  3. Install the steering column. Install the steering column mounting attaching nuts. See appropriate STEERING COLUMN article in STEERING.
  4. Install the left knee bolster bracket. Install the left closeout insulator panel.
  5. Install the inlet heater pipe. Install the shift control cable to the shift cable bracket. See appropriate AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SERVICING article in TRANSMISSIONS.
  6. Position the gearshift lever into park. Install the brake booster vacuum check valve to the vacuum brake booster. Install the Master cylinder to the vacuum brake booster. See MASTER CYLINDER  .
  7. Connect the electrical connector to the left strut tower. Install the accelerator control cable. Install the cruise control module. See appropriate CRUISE CONTROL article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT.
  8. Remove the blocks from the front wheels. Release the parking brake.
