Hydraulic Brake Booster: Installation

  1. Install the vacuum brake booster mounting gasket to the booster, if removed previously. Install the vacuum brake booster assembly to the vehicle.
  2. Install the brake pedal assembly to booster stud mounting nuts. Tighten the brake pedal assembly to booster stud mounting nuts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  3. Apply a small amount of lubricant, GM P/N 12346293 or equivalent to the clevis pin of the brake pedal.
  4. Connect the vacuum brake booster pushrod to the brake pedal assembly pedal clevis pin. Install the foam spacer to the brake pedal assembly clevis pin. Install the retaining clip to the brake pedal assembly clevis pin.
  5. Install the left knee bolster bracket. Install the left knee bolster. Install the left closeout insulator panel.
  6. Install the booster spacer. Install the wiring harness bracket. Install the master cylinder to the booster assembly. See MASTER CYLINDER  .
  7. Connect the power steering pressure hose. Connect the power steering gear to booster hose. Connect the power steering inlet hose. See appropriate POWER STEERING article in STEERING.
  8. Connect the negative battery cable. Bleed the hydraulic booster system. See MANUAL BLEEDING  under BLEEDING, FILLING & FLUSHING BRAKE SYSTEM.
  9. Remove the blocks from the front wheels. Release the park brake.
