Disc Brake Backing Plate: Installation
CAUTION:
The backing plate bolts threads and the threaded holes of the knuckle must be free of residue and debris prior to reapplication of threadlocker in order to ensure proper adhesion and fastener retention.
- Install the backing plate:
- Prepare the bolts and the threaded holes for assembly.
- Thoroughly clean the residue from the bolt threads by using denatured alcohol or equivalent and allow to dry.
- Thoroughly clean the residue from the threaded holes by using denatured alcohol or equivalent and allow to dry.
- Apply threadlocker GM US P/N 12345493, or equivalent to two-thirds of the threaded length of the lower caliper bracket bolts. Ensure that there are no gaps in the threadlocker along the length of the filled area of the bolts.
- Allow the threadlocker to cure approximately ten minutes before installation.
- Install the backing plate bolts. Tighten the backing plate bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the park brake shoe. See PARK BRAKE SHOE . Adjust the park brake shoe. See PARKING BRAKE under ADJUSTMENTS & INSPECTIONS. Install the hub and bearing assembly. See appropriate REAR SUSPENSION article in SUSPENSIONS. Install the brake rotor. See REAR BRAKE ROTOR .
- Install the park brake cable to the mounting bracket until the locking tabs snap into place. Install the park brake cable to the brake caliper lever. Pull down on the front park brake cable and connect the intermediate cable from the connector.
- Install the caliper and mounting bracket as an assembly. See REAR BRAKE CALIPER . Install the tire and wheel assembly. Lower the vehicle.
