Test Q: Engine Oil Pressure Indicator Always On

  1. If instrument cluster diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If instrument cluster diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Start engine and observe engine oil pressure indicator during bulb check. If engine oil pressure indicator does not illuminate during bulb check, go to next step. If engine oil pressure indicator illuminates during bulb check, inspect for intermittents. See TROUBLE SHOOTING  .
  3. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, near steering column. Start engine. Using scan tool, observe engine oil pressure switch parameter in Powertrain Control Module (PCM) engine data 3 list. If engine oil pressure switch parameter indicates LOW, go to next step. If engine oil pressure switch parameter does not indicate LOW, go to step  6 .
  4. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect engine oil pressure switch harness connector. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using scan tool, observe engine oil pressure switch parameter in PCM data list. If engine oil pressure switch parameter indicates LOW, go to next step. If engine oil pressure switch parameter does not indicate LOW, go to step  8 .
  5. Inspect Tan/Black wire for a short to ground between ground and engine oil pressure switch harness connector. Ground point is located on lower left front corner of engine on transmission case. If problem does not exist, go to step  7 . If problem exists, repair Tan/Black wire as necessary. After repair, go to step  12 .
  6. Inspect Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) harness connector for poor connections. If problem does not exist, go to step  9 . If problem exists, repair IPC harness connector as necessary. After repair, go to step  12 .
  7. Inspect PCM harness connector C2 for poor connections. If problem does not exist, go to step  11 . If problem exists, repair PCM harness connector as necessary. After repair, go to step  12 .
  8. Inspect engine oil pressure switch harness connector for poor connections. If problem does not exist, go to step  10 . If problem exists, repair engine oil pressure switch harness connector as necessary. After repair, go to step  12 .
  9. Replace IPC, then go to step  12 .
  10. Replace engine oil pressure switch. After repair, go to step  12 .
  11. Replace PCM. Program PCM. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE  under PROGRAMMING. After repair, go to next step.
  12. Operate system to verify repair. If system is not operating correctly, repeat test beginning at step  2 .
