Description & Operation (Instrument Panel Cluster): Speedometer

Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) displays vehicle speed based on information received from Power Control Module (PCM). PCM converts data received from vehicle speed sensor into a 4000 pulses/mile signal. IPC uses vehicle speed signal circuit from PCM to calculate vehicle speed. Speedometer defaults to zero MPH if a malfunction in vehicle speed signal circuit exists. Speedometer displays either miles or kilometers as requested by activation of ENG/MET button on Driver's Information Center (DIC). An associated indicator (km/h or MPH) illuminates. Speedometer display configuration can be changed as requested by activation of DSPL MODE button on DIC switch. Speedometer can be configured in these following formats:

• Analog display only.
• Analog and digital displays.
• Digital display only.
