Test Ai: Trunk Ajar Indicator Inoperative

If body rear end diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If body rear end diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform BODY REAR END DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, near steering column. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Open rear compartment lid. Using scan tool, observe trunk ajar switch parameter in Rear Integration Module (RIM) data list. If scan tool indicates trunk ajar switch parameter as OFF, go to next step. If scan tool does not indicate tunk ajar switch parameter as OFF, inspect for intermittents. See TROUBLE SHOOTING .
Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect rear compartment lid release actuator harness connector. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper wire between rear compartment lid release actuator harness connector terminals "C" (Red/Black wire) and "B" (Black wire). Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using scan tool, observe trunk ajar switch parameter. If scan tool indicates trunk ajar switch parameter is OFF, go to next step. If scan tool does not indicate trunk ajar switch parameter is OFF, go to step 7 .
Inspect Black wire for an open or high resistance between ground and rear compartment lid release actuator harness connector terminal "B". Ground point is located on left rear corner of trunk compartment. If problem does not exist, go to next step. If problem exists, repair Black wire as necessary. After repair, go to step 10 .
Inspect Red/Black wire for an open, high resistance or short between rear compartment lid release actuator harness connector terminal "C" and RIM harness connector C2 terminal B6. See Figure . If problem does not exist, go to next step. If problem exists, repair Red/Black wire as necessary. After repair, go to step 10 .
Inspect RIM harness connector for poor connections. If problem does not exist, go to step 8 . If problem exists, repair RIM harness connector as necessary. After repair, go to step 10 .
Inspect rear compartment lid release actuator harness connector for poor connections. If problem does not exist, go to step 9 . If problem exists, repair rear compartment lid release actuator harness connector as necessary. After repair, go to step 10 .
Replace RIM, then go to step 10 .
Replace rear compartment lid release actuator. After repair, go to next step.
Operate system to verify repair. If system is not operating correctly, repeat test beginning at step 2 .
