Test Ac: Malfunction Indicator Light Inoperative

  1. If engine controls diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If engine controls diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform ENGINE CONTROL DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Remove and inspect IGN 1 fuse from rear fuse block. Rear fuse block is located below left seat cushion. If fuse is okay, go to next step. If fuse is blown, go to step  10 .
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Blue 80-pin harness connector C1. PCM is located below air cleaner housing. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper wire between ground and PCM harness connector C1 terminal No. 32 (Brown/White wire). See Figure . Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Observe Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL). If MIL does not illuminate, go to next step. If MIL illuminates, go to step  9 .
  4. If 3-amp fused jumper wire did not blow, go to next step. If 3-amp fused jumper wire blew, go to step  11 .
  5. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Remove instrument panel. Disconnect Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) harness connector C2. Inspect Brown/White wire for an open between PCM harness connector C1 terminal No. 32 and IPC harness connector C2 A8. See Figure and Figure . If problem does not exist, go to next step. If problem exists, repair Brown/White wire as necessary. After repair, go to step  14 .
  6. Connect a test light between ground and IPC harness connector C2 terminal A3 (Pink wire). If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, go to step  8 .
  7. Repair open in Pink wire between IPC and rear fuse block. After repair, go to step  14 .
  8. Inspect IPC harness connector for poor connections. If problem does not exist, go to step  12 . If problem exists, repair IPC harness connector as necessary. After repair, go to step  14 .
  9. Inspect PCM harness connector for poor connections. If problem does not exist, go to step  13 . If problem exists, repair PCM harness connector as necessary. After repair, go to step  14 .
  10. Repair short to ground in Pink wire between IPC and rear fuse block. After repair, go to step  14 .
  11. Repair short to voltage in Brown/White wire between PCM and IPC. After repair, go to step  14 .
  12. Replace IPC, then go to step  14 .
  13. Replace PCM. Program PCM. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE  under PROGRAMMING. After repair, go to next step.
  14. Operate system to verify repair. If system is not operating correctly, repeat test beginning at step  2 .
