Test J: Charge Indicator Always On
- If engine electrical diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If engine electrical diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform ENGINE ELECTRICAL DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Start engine, and observe charge indicator during bulb check. If charge indicator remains illuminated during bulb check, go to next step. If charge indicator does not remain illuminated during bulb check, inspect for intermittents. See TROUBLE SHOOTING .
- Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, near steering column. Using scan tool, observe battery voltage parameter in Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) data list. Battery voltage parameter should be 10-15 volts. If voltage is within specified range, go to next step. If voltage is not within specified range, repair charging system as necessary. See GENERATORS & REGULATORS - SEVILLE article in STARTING & CHARGING SYSTEMS.
- Replace IPC, then go to next step.
- Operate system to verify repair. If system is not operating correctly, repeat test beginning at step 2 .
