Test E: Anti-Lock Brake System Indicator Always On

  1. If instrument cluster diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If instrument cluster diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Ensure Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) ground is clean and tight. Ground point is located on lower left front corner of engine on transmission case. If problem does not exist, go to next step. If problem exists, repair ground as necessary. After repair, go to step  9 .
  3. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, near steering column. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using scan tool, observe Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) warning indicator parameter in Dynamic Rear Proportioning (DRP)/ABS/Traction Control System (TCS) data list. If scan tool displays OFF, go to next step. If scan tool does not display OFF, go to step  5 .
  4. Cycle ignition switch from OFF to RUN position, and observe ABS indicator during bulb check. If ABS indicator does not illuminate approximately 3 seconds and turn off, go to step  6 . If ABS indicator illuminates approximately 3 seconds and turns off, inspect for intermittents. See TROUBLE SHOOTING  .
  5. Inspect EBCM harness connector for poor connections. If problem does not exist, go to step  7 . If problem exists, repair EBCM harness connector as necessary. After repair, go to step  9 .
  6. Inspect Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) harness connector for poor connections. If problem does not exist, go to step  8 . If problem exists, repair IPC harness connector as necessary. After repair, go to step  9 .
  7. CAUTION: An unprogrammed EBCM will result in an inoperative or poorly functioning DRP/ABS/TCS/VSES/VES, and will store DTCs C1248 and C1255m3.
  8. Replace EBCM. Program EBCM, using latest software in Techline Terminal/Equipment. Follow manufacturer's instructions. After repair, go to step  9 .
  9. Replace IPC, then go to next step.
  10. Operate system to verify repair. If system is not operating correctly, repeat test beginning at step  2 .
