Test AK: Turn Signal Lights/Indicators Inoperative

  1. If lighting systems diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If lighting systems diagnostic system check has not been performed, perform LIGHTING SYSTEMS DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using turn signal lever, operate turn signals. If turn signal lights and indicators do not operate correctly, go to next step. If turn signals lights and indicators operate correctly, inspect for intermittents. See TROUBLE SHOOTING  .
  3. If only turn signal indicators are not inoperative, go to next step. If only turn signal indicators are inoperative, go to step  6 .
  4. If all turn signal lights and indicators are not inoperative, go to next step. If all turn signal lights and indicators are inoperative, go to step  7 .
  5. If only one turn signal light is inoperative, go to step  10 . If more than one turn signal light is inoperative, go to step  14 .
  6. Place turn signal lever is suspect position. Using scan tool, observe suspect turn signal parameter in Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) inputs data list. If scan tool does not indicate turn signal parameter as ON, go to step  13 . If scan tool indicates turn signal parameter as ON, go to step  17 .
  7. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect hazard switch 10-pin harness connector. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Place turn signal lever in left turn position. Connect a test light between ground and hazard switch harness connector terminal "B" (Light Green wire). See Figure . If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step  21 .
  8. Connect a test light between ground and hazard switch harness connector terminal "G" (Orange wire). If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step  19 .
  9. Connect a test light between hazard switch harness connector terminals "G" (Orange wire) and "J" (Black wire). If test light illuminates, go to step  15 . If test light does not illuminate, go to step  20 .
  10. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect suspect turn signal light harness connector. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Connect a test light between ground and suspect turn signal light harness connector supply voltage circuit (Light Blue wire, left turn or Dark Blue wire, right turn). Place turn signal lever in suspect position. If test light flashes on and off, go to next step. If test light does not flash on and off, go to step  12 .
  11. Connect a test light between suspect turn signal light harness connector terminals supply voltage circuit and ground circuit. Place turn signal lever in suspect position. If test light flashes on and off, go to step  18 . If test light does not flash on and off, go to step  22 .
  12. Inspect Light Blue wire or Dark Blue wire for an open or high resistance between hazard switch and suspect turn signal light. If problem does not exist, go to step  15 . If problem exists, repair Light Blue wire or Dark Blue wire as necessary. After repair, go to step  27 .
  13. Inspect Light Blue wire or Dark Blue wire for an open or high resistance between suspect turn signal indicator and hazard switch. If problem does not exist, go to step  17 . If problem exists, repair Light Blue wire or Dark Blue wire as necessary. After repair, go to step  27 .
  14. Inspect Light Green wire or Dark Green wire for an open or high resistance between turn signal switch and hazard switch. If problem does not exist, go to step  16 . If problem exists, repair Light Green wire or Dark Green wire as necessary. After repair, go to step  27 .
  15. Inspect hazard switch harness connector for poor connections. If problem does not exist, go to step  23 . If problem exists, repair hazard switch harness connector as necessary. After repair, go to step  27 .
  16. Inspect turn signal switch harness connector for poor connections. If problem does not exist, go to step  24 . If problem exists, repair turn signal switch harness connector as necessary. After repair, go to step  27 .
  17. Inspect IPC harness connector for poor connections. If problem does not exist, go to step  25 . If problem exists, repair, IPC harness connector as necessary. After repair, go to step  27 .
  18. Inspect suspect turn signal light harness connector for poor connections. If problem does not exist, go to step  26 . If problem exists, repair suspect turn signal light harness connector as necessary. After repair, go to step  27 .
  19. Repair open or high resistance in Orange wire between hazard switch harness connector terminal "G" and rear fuse block. After repair, go to step  27 .
  20. Repair open or high resistance in Black wire between ground and hazard switch harness connector terminal "J". Ground point is located on right front corner of passenger compartment, below front sill trim plate. After repair, go to step  27 .
  21. Repair open or high resistance in Pink wire between in-line harness connector and rear fuse block. After repair, go to step  27 .
  22. Repair open or high resistance in Black wire between ground and suspect turn signal light. Ground point is located on right rear corner of rear compartment. After repair, go to step  27 .
  23. Replace hazard switch. After repair, go to step  27 .
  24. Replace turn signal switch. After repair, go to step  27 .
  25. Replace IPC, then go to step  27 .
  26. Replace suspect turn signal light. After repair, go to next step.
  27. Operate system to verify repair. If system is not operating correctly, repeat test beginning at step  2 .
