Air Bag System Diagnostic System Check
- Turn ignition switch to RUN position, and observe AIR BAG indicator. If AIR BAG indicator flashes 7 times, go to next step. If AIR BAG indicator does not flash 7 times, repair air bag system by symptom. See appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article.
- Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, near steering column. If scan tool powers up, go to next step. If scan tool does not power up, perform TEST A: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT POWER UP under SYSTEM TESTS in BODY CONTROL MODULES - SEVILLE article.
- Using scan tool, attempt to communicate with Sensing and Diagnostic Module (SDM). If scan tool communicates with SDM, go to next step. If scan tool does not communicate with SDM, perform TEST B: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE under SYSTEM TESTS in BODY CONTROL MODULES - SEVILLE article.
- Using scan tool, request SIR DTC display. Record displayed DTCs, current and history. If scan tool displays any current or history DTCs, go to next step. If scan tool does not display any current or history DTCs, system is okay at this time.
- If scan tool does not display any DTCs which begin with "U", go to next step. If scan tool displays any DTCs which begin with "U", perform TEST B: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE under SYSTEM TESTS in BODY CONTROL MODULES - SEVILLE article.
- If scan tool displays DTC B1000, perform DTC B1000: CONTROL MODULE MALFUNCTION under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS in BODY CONTROL MODULES - SEVILLE article. If scan tool does not display DTC B1000, perform appropriate test in accordance with DTC retrieved. See appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article.
