DTC P1189: Engine Oil Pressure Switch Circuit Failure: Description

With low oil pressure, engine oil pressure switch closes, and signal circuit is low. With oil pressure above 4.5 psi, engine oil pressure switch opens, and signal circuit is high. Powertrain Control Module (PCM) monitors oil pressure switch signal circuit and sends a class 2 message to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) indicating switch status. When PCM detects that oil pressure switch signal circuit is high for 10 seconds or more, DTC will be stored. When DTC is stored, PCM stored conditions that exist when DTC sets as failure records data only. Information is not stored as freeze frame data. DTC becomes history when conditions for storing DTC no longer exists. A history DTC clears after 40 malfunction free warm-up cycles.
