Description & Operation (Instrument Panel Cluster): Tachometer

Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) displays engine speed based on information received from Powertrain Control Module (PCM). PCM converts data received from engine into a 2 pulses per engine revolution signal. IPC uses engine speed signal circuit from PCM to calculate engine speed. Tachometer defaults to zero RPM if a malfunction in engine speed signal circuit exists.
