Test P: Door Ajar Message Inoperative
NOTE:
This procedure diagnoses DRIVER DOOR AJAR, PASSENGER DOOR AJAR, LEFT REAR DOOR AJAR and RIGHT REAR DOOR AJAR messages.
- If power door systems diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If power door systems diagnostic system check has not been performed, go to DOOR SYSTEMS DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECKS.
- Verify door ajar indicator is malfunctioning. If door ajar indicator system does not operate as described in DESCRIPTION & OPERATION (INDICATOR/WARNING MESSAGES) , go to next step. If door ajar indicator system operates as described in DESCRIPTION & OPERATION (INDICATOR/WARNING MESSAGES) , check for faulty connections in door ajar circuit. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
- Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). See Figure. Turn ignition on. Close all doors. Observe the parameters in the DATA DISPLAY INPUTS list for DRIVER DOOR AJAR SW., PASSENGER DOOR AJAR SW., LEFT REAR DOOR AJAR SW., and RIGHT REAR DOOR AJAR SW. If scan tool indicates that door switch parameters are OFF for all doors, go to next step. If scan tool indicates that door switch parameters are not OFF for all doors, go to step 5.
- Open all vehicle doors. Observe the parameters in the DATA DISPLAY INPUTS list for DRIVER DOOR AJAR SW., PASSENGER DOOR AJAR SW., LEFT REAR DOOR AJAR SW., and RIGHT REAR DOOR AJAR SW. on scan tool. If scan tool indicates that door switch parameters are ON for all doors, check for intermittent connections in door ajar circuit. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If scan tool indicates that door switch parameters are not ON for all doors, go to step 6.
- Turn ignition off. Remove door panel for suspect door. Disconnect suspect door lock actuator 4-pin connector C1. See Fig 1. Connect scan tool. Observe suspect door lock actuator parameter in DATA DISPLAY INPUTS. If scan tool displays OFF, go to step 11 If scan tool does not display OFF, go to step 9.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect suspect door lock actuator. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper between the door ajar signal and ground circuits of suspect door lock actuator harness connector. See DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR TERMINAL IDENTIFICATION . If scan tool does not display ON at suspect door lock actuator, Go to next step. If scan tool displays ON at suspect door lock actuator, go to step 11.DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR TERMINAL IDENTIFICATION

See DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR TERMINAL IDENTIFICATION . If no problem was found, go to next step. If a problem was found and corrected, go to step 14.
- Check for an open, high resistance or short to voltage in suspect door lock actuator door ajar switch signal circuit. See DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR TERMINAL IDENTIFICATION . If no problem was found, go to step 10. If a problem was found and corrected, go to step 14.
- Check for a short to ground in suspect door ajar signal circuit. See DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR TERMINAL IDENTIFICATION . If no problem was found, go to next step. If a problem was found and corrected, go to step 14.
- Check for faulty connections at suspect door module. See Fig 3. If no problem was found, go to step 12. If a problem was found and corrected, go to step, 14.
- Check for poor connections at suspect door lock actuator. If no problem was found, go to step 13. If a problem was found and corrected, go to step 14.
- Replace suspect door lock module. See DOOR MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in POWER DOOR LOCKS - DEVILLE article. After repairs, go to step 14.
- Replace suspect door lock actuator. See DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in POWER DOOR LOCKS - DEVILLE article. After repairs, go to step 14.
- After repairs, recheck operation of suspect DOOR AJAR message. If message operates properly, repair is complete. If message does not operate properly, return to step 2.
