Test J: Check Washer Fluid Indicator Inoperative

  1. Check operation of wiper/washer system. If wiper/washer system operates properly, go to next step. If wiper/washer system does not operate properly, go to SYSTEM TESTS in WIPER/WASHER SYSTEM - DEVILLE article.
  2. Verify windshield washer reservoir is at or near empty. Turn ignition on. Wait one minute. If LOW WASHER FLUID message is not displayed on driver's information center, go to next step. If LOW WASHER FLUID message is displayed on driver's information center, problem is intermittent, check wiring and connections to washer fluid level indicator.
  3. Disconnect windshield washer fluid level switch located on top of washer fluid reservoir. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper between ground and washer fluid level switch harness connector terminal "B" (Black/White wire). Turn ignition on. If LOW WASHER FLUID message is not displayed in driver's information center, go to next step. If LOW WASHER FLUID message is displayed in driver's information center, go to step  5.
  4. Check for open or high resistance in Black/White wire between washer fluid level switch harness connector terminal "B" and IPC connector C2 terminal B5. See Figure. If no problems are found, go to step  7. If any problems are found and corrected, go to step  8.
  5. Check for open or high resistance between washer fluid level switch harness connector "A" (Black wire) and ground (located on radiator support next to washer reservoir). If no problems are found, go to next step. If any problems are found and corrected, go to step  8.
  6. Washer fluid level switch is not serviceable, replace washer fluid reservoir. See WINDSHIELD WASHER FLUID LEVEL SENSOR . After repairs, go to step  8.
  7. Replace IPC. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go to next step.
  8. After repairs, recheck operation of LOW WASHER FLUID message. If message operates properly, repair is complete. If message does not operate properly, return to step  2.
